Hi, I followed the preparation in the required steps before posting and it seems like nail stuff is all gone. So I just wanted to post my logs from HJT and get confirmation if my computer is actually clean.
Thanks a bunch!

You did a good job prepping for someone to come in. Unfortunately, I don't know what you had to start off with, so I'm going to ask you first if you followed these steps?

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd.  Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan.  Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Please set your system to show
all hidden files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.

Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

G:\mIRC\mirc.exe
Exit the Task Manager when finished.

Close all programs and all windows, leaving only HijackThis running. Please disconnect from the internet. Place a check narj against each of the following, making sure you get each one and not any others by mistake:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rhythmic] rhythmic.EXE<<what is this? If you don't know and don't need it, put a check mark next to it.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tbirdejs] tbirdejs.EXE<<what is this? If you don't know and don't need it, put a check mark next to it.
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE<<resource hog
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

G:\mIRC\mirc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
rhythmic.EXE<<only if you checked it up above
tbirdejs.EXE<<only if you checked it up above
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Let the system reboot.

Please reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look to see how we did.

Hmm it seems like its running fine, better than before that's for sure!
But sometimes my adaware-ad blocker-thing says that
nail is trying to access my internet...and I thought that was
kind of wierd. :tazz:

Download Silent Runners
Unzip it to a permanent folder.
Start SilentRunners.vbs
When your antivirus is giving an alert, do not block this. Allow the script.
Copy and paste the content of the txtfile you get afterwards in your next reply.

make sure all files are showing, and see if you can find this file. I know it says it's missing, but do a search to see if you can find it.

If you don't find it, go to start>>run>>regedit and under edit, go to find. type in the word "nail" (without the quotes) and see if you can find it there.

Do not delete anything. Report back and let me know what it says.

ahhh! I searched my registry and found this:
I found nail.exe again in Windows under these keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2000478354-606747145-682003330-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache

...that's wierd I'm sure I deleted those already ;)

and I also in this key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
I found a Value named Shell with value data saying: "Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe"

I strongly recommend that you back up the registry before making any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify the specified keys only. Read the document, "How to make a backup of the Windows registry," for instructions. How to make a backup

1. Click Start > Run.

2. Type regedit

Then click OK.

3. Navigate to the key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellNoRoam\MUICache

4. In the right pane, delete the value having to do with:

"nail.exe"

(repeat the steps for the other values)

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2000478354-606747145-682003330-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

5. Exit the Registry Editor.

Do a search for nail again after going to regedit and see if you got everything.
Run CleanUp! and play around with it and tell me how everything is working. :tazz:

ok, I deleted all the nail files in my registry and then ran cleanup! and everything seems to be running smooth. No waits on startup and no alerts that nail.exe is trying to access the internet. WooT!! Thanks! :tazz:
