Sound not working properly

My sound has this weird echo effect to it and the vocals sound so distant.I've tried watchign movies on the web or listeaning to music and still same effects but sometimes the base sounds real loud.
I checked to make sure my sound drivers were up to date and they are...I went as far as buying a new set of speakers and still the same problem.
I have windows vista and realtek high Defintion audio.

You might have some 3d effect as your default settings, go check in your realtek sound settings.
