This has always been one of my favorite tools, so far with win 8 and 8.1 i have not seen any problems. I hope OT stays on top of it and releases new versions

Just a suggestion and forgive me if wrong. Could someone amend this thread by adding this content? I had to look over Malware Removal forum and spent a lot of time researching. TIA

Before I answer your question, please be aware that OTL is a tool that is no longer supported, and should not be used on any version of Windows later than Windows 7.

That being said ...

OTL does not make backups of the Registry.

OTL does make backups/copies of any files or folders you remove/fix using it.

.... both of which are found in the C:\_OTL\Moved Files folder.

  • The specific folder for any fix will be named MMDDYYYY_HHMMSS, where MMDDYYYY_HHMMSS represent the date and time the fix was performed.

There is no specific function to restore files/folders, and you would have to copy the files/folders in C:\_OTL\Moved Files\MMDDYYYY_HHMMSS back to their original location manually.

Just to draw your attention to:

Note: The public version of the OTL tool is no longer being updated or maintained. While OTL will scan and work with Windows 8 it has not been designed to take into account any changes made since Windows 7. Care should be exercised in interpretation and fixing when working with Windows 8 or above.
