But I have one more question. How do you test Purity infestions? Does it mean that you intentionally make your PC infected with Purity and see how it works and how to remove it.
Post in the Malware Removal section of this forum as the experts are the only ones who should do this special work.
We do not give this advice here, especially from me  , as I am only training.

Yeah ... I know, it is very dangerous for layman like me. I just interested whether you will let your own PC to infect and try to cure it. Moreover, How you expert collect those methods of infections as there are thousands of virus. Do you need to test them one by one?

Hello hkQQ2010,

These are questions are not relevant to the OTL tutorial thread.

If you are interested in pursuing questions about understanding and fighting malware you should enrole in one of the teaching sites.

Here is the Geekstogo link

Good luck. :)

Hello lancastl,

This is not the place for malware removal assistance.

You need to start a new topic in the Virus, Spyware and Malware removal forum. See link below:

Hello all,

I am sorry, I have a problem about the ":Files" directive.
I saw one Geek helping victim by using the following

Quote

:Files
C:\Windows\System32\Config\SAM|C:\Windows\ERDNT\hiv-backup\SAM /replace

But I can't find the function of '|' or '/replace' in the OTL Tutorial.
Could anyone say something about them?

Many thanks.

Hi. I don't know if maybe I missed it in the tutorial, but is there any way that OTL can be set to scan an external hard drive only? My computer wouldn't get past the startup screen, so I connected it to another computer as an external to try to get some help with it.

You would need to run OTL from a USB stick but if your computer cant boot, other work would need to be done first.
Although if your computer cant boot try doing this tutorial.

No luck? then make a thread here

You may download OTLPEStd.exe (mirror), then you can use a tools, eeepcfr.zip, to make a bootable USB-OTLPE, and use it to have a OTLPE scan on non-bootable infected PC.

The exact procedure to make a bootable USB-OTLPE is here. It is extremely useful.

Hope it is helpful.

Good luck.

Hi BHardy,

Post a new topic in the Virus and Spyware removal section here.

If your computer doesn't get past the startup screen you will likely need specialist help to find the cause. :)

I am a Comcast user and downloaded their latest version of the Norton Security Site. Since then, with each signon I get the following error message: c:/Windows/system32/penipure.dll - The specified module could not be found. Is there a way to get rid of this? Thank you.

Log removed - please post in the correct forum

Hello smokymoses,

This is not the place to post your logs for review.

OTL logs should be posted in the malware forum. Go here and start a new topic with your log. :)
