Hello!

After attempting to update AVG last month, I am no longer able to download any files (pdf, doc, jpeg) in Internet Explorer. The files appear to be downloading, and then disappear. I don't (stupidly) have another browser. This problem does not extend to other programs, such as itunes.

Extensive google searches have gotten me nowhere. I attempted to run IE without add-ons and as an administrator. I am wary of turning off User Accounts and doubt it would be helpful anyway. "Uninstall AVG" does not work (Installer initialization failed due to following error:
Error: @AvgErrorCode_0x0253 %FILE% = "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8"
@AvgErrorCode_0x0020)

There is only one account on my computer, and it is set as Administrator. Someone mentioned there may be another, hidden Administrator account of which I am unaware.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Try this to remove AVG

Download AVG uninstall/cleanup utility and run it (if running Vista or Windows 7, right-click choose "Run as Administrator"):

When I attempt to download (or even to run without saving) the uninstaller, even that disappears :)

Do you have access to another computer? Maybe you could transfer it on a flash drive or cd.
