Hi, my name is Jerry. I followed all the steps listed to do an in-place repair of Windows XP, the system rebooted and now it appears frozen on the "Microsoft Windows XP" screen. Beneath "Windows XP" it says "please wait", and the cursor is an hour glass. It has been like this for about forty five minutes. The XP cd is still in the tray. Can you give me a little guidance here, please?

What was the original issue, which led to the repair?
Did you try Safe Mode?
