Windows Security Alert, Application cannot cannot be executed, Internet Explorer Warning, Antivirus Software Alert

Alerts happen in that order, the last one also says "Infiltration Alert ... threat Win32/Nuqel.E" Then a Security Center window opens up saying it's from Microsoft and looks similar to a genuine security management window.

I can't access the Internet. Had to disconnect from it because porn site, Trojans and spam shortcuts and links were being downloaded onto the desktop ... happened a week or so ago and SuperAntiSpyware got rid of it, but now I can't run that, it gets closed, I couldn't get through the first step of your guide. Can't access control panel.

I have an online business and am hurting. I am not computer savvy enough for this but will be learning alot from your site. I am sending this post via iPhone. No second computer present but can drive to one as needed. Do have MS Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 given to me a month ago when I couldn't start the computer due to viruses and paid to have it dealt with.

Can start in safe mode, Windows Advanced Menu Options screen comes up with 12 options to choose from.

:) eep, help please

Hello Frogstitch64 :)

Before we begin, I would like to make a few things clear so that we can fix your problem as efficiently as possible:
  • Be sure to follow all my instructions carefully! If there is anything you don''t understand, don't hesitate to ask.
  • Please do not do anything or perform other steps unless I have asked you to do so.
  • Please make sure you post all logs I ask you to, and make sure that the entire log gets posted.

On the "Windows Advanced Menu Options" select Safe Mode With Networking

Let me know if you can access the net in there.

UPDATE 6:48PM - I CAN access the internet! I didn't plug the #$*^% modem back in ... ugh ... fried brain.

Original message: Started in Safe Mode with Networking, cannot access Internet, am getting either "cannot display the webpage" or invalid address message in IE window.

hi

Good News

Now From Safe Mode With Networking i need you to do the following.

Step 1

  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Under the Custom Scan bot paste this in

    netsvcs
    drivers32
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav
    %systemroot%\system32\user32.dll /md5
    %systemroot%\system32\ws2_32.dll /md5

  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.

Step 2

Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner.

  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
  • Double click GMER.exe.
    Posted Image
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a full scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan..
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are UNCHECKED ...
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
      Posted Image
Click the image to enlarge it
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt"
  • Save the log where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Please copy and paste the report into your Post.

I copied and pasted for the custom scan in OTL but it doesn't look like anything shows up when I paste. The scroll bar moves suggesting something was inserted there, but it doesn't actually show.

It's still running .... wow, I have to clean stuff off this computer. It's a hand-me-down from in the family and has had a few primary users. There's not a lot on here I need to keep ... and I am thinking I do have to include some better protection and better security habits!

It finally finished around 11:15am my time. I don't see a save button, if it's below the scan button I can't scroll down to it ... or stretch the window far enough to get to it.

That is where I expected it to be and I cannot get to it. I tried to resize and ended up closing the window, not sure how but it is GONE. Will have to run GMER AGAIN. Given how long it took and the time difference between you and me, it will be tomorrow before I hear from you again ... my business depends on Internet access and I have to get to a functioning computer to manage my store now. I will start GMER again ... in a few hours I'll come back to it.

How do I resize the content in the window while in safe mode? I will not be able to get to the save button until I can get down to the contents at the bottom of that window. Doesn't matter if full screen or not, I can't get to it currently.
