Dlink DCM-202 update problem

I have a Dlink DCM-202 cable modem and i am having trouble upgrading the firmware on the modem. I keep losing my connection to the internet. i followed the instructions that came with the update but it didn't work. I called Dlink tech support and they said that i have to mail it over to them. i am wondering if anybody know of another way to update the firmware.
