What is Your PC Protector?

The Malwarebytes research team has determined that Your PC Protector is a fake anti-malware application. These so-called "rogues" use intentional false positives to convince users that their systems have been compromised. Then they try to sell you their software, claiming it will remove these threats. In extreme cases the false threats are actually the very trojans that advertise or even directly install the rogue. You are strongly advised to follow our removal instructions below.

How do I know if I am infected with Your PC Protector?

This is how the main screen of the rogue application looks:

You will find these icons on your desktop and in your taskbar:

And see these warnings:

How did Your PC Protector get on my computer?

Rogue programs use different methods for spreading themselves. This particular one was installed by a trojan.

How do I remove Your PC Protector?

Our program Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware can detect and remove this rogue application.
  • Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware or transfer it from another computer to the infected one.
  • Reboot the computer into safe mode.
    In safe mode:
    • Install Malwarebytes' Antimalware by doubleclicking mbam-setup.exe and follow the displayed instructions.
    • Once you've installed Malwarebytes' Antimalware, navigate to the Program Files\Malwarebytes' Antimalware folder.
    • Locate the file mbam.exe in this folder.

      Posted Image
    • Now RENAME the mbam.exe in there to iexplore.exe

    • If you want to avoid some possible problems later, rightclick the file and use the "Create Shortcut" option. Drag the shortcut to your desktop so you can easily start the program once you are back in normal mode.
  • After you reboot back into normal mode:
    • Doubleclick the iexplore.exe (the renamed mbam.exe or use the shortcut you created) in order to launch Malwarebytes' Antimalware.
    • Once the program window is open, the first and most important part is to UPDATE Malwarebytes' Antimalware first.
    • This can be done via the Update tab > Check for updates.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. Reboot your computer if prompted.
    • When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
    • You will be prompted to let the computer reboot, after which the rogue application should be gone.
  • Rename the iexplore.exe back to mbam.exe and delete the shortcut from your desktop, if you created it.
Is there anything else I need to do to get rid of Your PC Protector?
  • No, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware removes Your PC Protector completely.

How would the full version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware help protect me?

We hope our application has helped you eradicate this malicious software. If your current security solution let this infection through, you might please consider purchasing the FULL version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for additional protection.

As you can see below the full version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware would have protected you against the Your PC Protector rogue. It would have warned you before the rogue could install itself, giving you a chance to stop it before it became too late.

Please help me, I have been infected by a potentially new Malware called "Defense Center", claiming to be a anti-virus program, and asking me to pay for a full version etc. The program popup itself looks very similar to the screenshot of this "PC Protector" you posted.

I tried to follow your instructions with MalwareBytes installation, including installing in Safe Mode, and changing file name to "iexplore". However, once I ran the program, it froze after 7min13secs, I tried this 3 times, and each time it froze at the same mark.

In addition, after installing the MalwareBytes program, my Internet Explorer now pops up constantly, but I use FireFox, so I try to not let the IE load up. Seems the IE is trying to open up a file path to a "esentutl64.exe"

Meantime, when I restart my computer, I also get another popup, a Dos looking window that's blank, with the title "c:\Program Files\Apoint\Apntex.exe"

So looks like my computer is in a lot of trouble. Would much appreciate it if someone can help me out!

Many thanks in advance!

Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post an OTListIt log in THAT forum.
