On the rear panel of my HP Officejet 4215 is a light gray door. At least I think it's a door. It measures about 8 inches long by 3 inches high. It has tabs on each end. However, the manual doesn't mention it. In fact, the manual doesn't mention any kind of maintenance.

What is behind the mystery door? Is this where paper shavings go? Can I reach adjustments if I open the door? Or will trying to open it just break the printer?

if you look at page 15 of the online manual you'll notice that that door is the rear cleanout door. it's not where paper shavings go (why would there be paper shavings? it's not a paper shredder) but it's so you can have access to the back of the paper path when there's a paper jam
