Hi. I've been getting this message along with a beeping sound. It has been happening more frequently for some time now. It seems to be triggered by video games and HD/720p movies. I have limited knowledge about hardware but have analyzed just about everything inside the case and nothing specific stands out. The gfx card is definitely attached to the PSU.

When it happens, the CPU will freeze and my monitor will switch to power saving mode. The error occurs on the subsequent reboot. I have noticed that if I reboot after the freeze but before the monitor goes to power saving, the error will not occur about 75% of the time.

A few questions:
Is it possible that my PSU (420-watt) is being drained and is not sufficient for my system?
Is there a diagnostic available for my PSU?
Would chkdsk be effective for this problem?

I assume this is a desktop?

It sounds like a combination of a couple things. It could be heat related.
When was the last time you cleaned out the computer?
Have you cleaned all the fans?
Are all the fans working? Including the video card fan?
What happens if you leave the side off the computer? Allowing more air to cool it?

The 420w psu could also be an issue because by todays standards it is quite low.

The 140mm and 2x 120mm fans and vid card fan are all clean and working; mobo fan could use an upgrade. It's running at an internal temperature of 29C.

I last cleaned it about a week ago.

Have you always used the existing video card with no problem or did the issue start with the introduction of the video card into the system?
I have to agree with 123Runner and his statement about the PSU being the possible problem.
Is this a custom built or a name brand system?

This problem is now resolved.

The guy who did all of the wiring on my computer accidentally setup my video card using wire that was designated for floppy drives. :) :)

Thank you for your replies. :)
