I just purchased a new CD-R/DVD-R drive and the CD-R write speed is 40X but when I burn a CD it will only burn at 8X any reason for this....Also I changed the write speed in Nero to 31X but it still burns at 8X.......Also what is the differance between DVD-R and DVD+R......
Thanks

Most likely the CD media, your burner doesn't think it can write to it any faster without errors. You could try another brand of CD-R's. Also, many times a firmware update from the drive mfg will improve media compatability.

Two competing formats. Kind of like VHS and Beta. I usually use DVD-R because it's more compatible with most DVD players.
