Could anybody offer some advice on backup/restore and cloning for restoring my files after a windows re-install?
I have a broken Windows XP installation, so need to re-install, but I have a lot of documents & pictures etc that I would like to keep. In case it all goes horribly wrong, I would like to backup these files and then selectively restore them into the new build. One method I have thought of is to clone the disk, then recover the files from the image. I am not sure if I can do this selectively (using clonezilla) but I guess I could go back to square 1 if it goes belly up.
I have also been told about using Knoppix and the DD command, but struggle a bit with the Linux file structure and media handling. I had a quick look at Norton Ghost, but that seems more aimed at running in the background backing up i'm case of a crash.
Any advice would be very welcome...
Thanks
