problems with remote assistance

hey there... every time my dad sends me an invitation to remote assist him through remote assistance, i click accept... but when it gets to the point of connecting to his PC, HIS PC shuts down and restarts. we have tried every way possible (windows messenger, email, saved invitation). any clue on whats causing this and/or how to fix it?

his PC: sony vaio - uses AOL dial up to connect and has trend micro antivirus
my pc - hp pavilion notebook - i'm on a fixed T3 line and also have trend micro antivirus
