Hi,

I am trying to help my friend with a major problem: after booting, the computer freezes after any attempt to click on toolbar items, requiring a hard boot. In safe mode I am able to access the start menu but not the internet. There has also been a bluescreen error:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.2
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: f4
BCP1: 00000003
BCP2: 871C4AF8
BCP3: 871C4C44
BCP4: 81E27710
OS Version: 6_0_6002
Service Pack: 2_0
Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini061510-02.dmp
C:\Users\j\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-52728-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\j\AppData\Local\Temp\WER1A62.tmp.version.txt

OS: Windows Vista (Home Basic) 32-bit, service pack 2
Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1545
AntiVirus software has expired and I suspect a virus/malware infection but I cannot install any new software in safe mode. I will teach my friend about the importance of anti virus software if this ever gets resolved :)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Geeks to Go!!
