Hi all,

I am trying to completely unistall Windows ME from a COMPAC laptop that I'm giving away. Problem is that the system will not allow me to do it because it requires the Windows ME OS CD....which I never had as Windows came pre-installed when I purchased the PC yrs. ago. Nor was I given a Product Number for that OS.

I'm also trying to completely clean out the hard drive for safety reasons.

Thank you in advance for whatever help you can offer in this matter. :)

Thank you "SpywareDr". :)
I have to admit, though, you had me just a tad worried there when I read the word "Nuke"!

O.K. I've checked the site out and it says I can only obtain that by dowloading. Is it possible that I can download that using one of my faster PCs and save to a CD and then use that CD on the slow Windows ME?

Thanks

Hi,

O.K. Now that Father's Day has come and gone and I finally got a few minutes to myself, I finally got around to this this morning (the cleaning of the DRIVE in the PC with the ME install).

I could not download to a CD using another PC as I had said before as once you're in that SITE and hit DOWNLOAD, it starts wiping out WINDOWS. Since I was using another one of my PC's and did not want to damage the WINDOWS installation in that PC (XP), I decided to do a direct DOWNLOAD (using the PC with the ME).

Well, though there's a little message in the bottom stating, "unistalling WINDOWS ME", more than two hours went by and windows ME is still alive and kicking.

What should I try next?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Download the file and save it to a spot on your other computer.
The file name is dban-2.2.6_i586.iso

You then need to burn the iso file to a CD and then boot the computer with the CD.
You burn the file. Do not copy it.

If you don't have a burning program that will burn .ISO files get burncdcc from my signature below ..a small FAST no frills iso burning program...

NOTE...do not put a blank cd in until burncdcc opens the tray for you
1. Start BurnCDCC
2. Browse to the ISO file you want to burn on cd/dvd ....
3. Select the ISO file
4. click on Start
