I ran chkdsk via properties on a portable usb hard drive, it appears to be stuck at stage 4 and has been for approximately 8 hours now.

I am unable to access the drive via cmd or my computer. "Access denied"

This drive has a significant amount of data that can not be replaced so I am trying to be a careful as possible with it.

If there is anyone who can advise what my next step would be I would greatly appreciate it.
