I have installed an at&t 2 wire gateway router/modem (2701HG-B). All seams to be working just fine. My question is - in the Network Connections in the Control Panel it shows under BROADBAND status 'disconnected' and under LAN or High Speed Internet it shows 'connected' for a 1394 connection and a Local Area Connection. Why doesn't the BROADBAND show connected? And what are the LAN and 1394 connections?

The broadband connection is a pppoe connection and not needed on most of the modems used today. You are on a LAN (local area Network) which is what most modems use. You can delete the Broadband connection as it is unnecessary. The 1394 (firewire) connection is a protocol not used in most home networking setups. You can ignore it or disable it.

The Local Area Connection is the one that you should be concerned with, if it says connected then you should be good to go.

Thank you Silverbeard. That makes sense to me and I will carefully disable/delete the broadband and the 1394 connections. Everything is working. As a matter of fact I am getting a better signal on my PS3 with this 2 wire gateway modem/router. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
