Hey Geekstogo,
I was just on my sony vaio laptop when it started making a clicking noise then it said "disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart". Everytime I turn on my computer, it comes to this screen. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks so much!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds like your hard drive crashed. Do you have a backup of your data? Also, you're going to need to order the restore CDs for your laptop (provided that you don't have them already).

You're going to need to replace the hard drive. You can find some good deals on NewEgg here.

Unfortunately, no. If you heard clicking and the system won't even read the disc, the drive is likely dead. You can try, but I doubt it will work.

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.

hey dude i have the same problem,but if i give a soft blow on the cpu,my hdd get detected but when i am using my pc sometimes it gets hanged

Sounds like a loose connection, or possibly a failing hard drive.

Tip: *ALL* mechanical hard drives WILL fail. If you have files that you would hate to lose, back them up, (i.e., copy them to another disk|disc).

Although your issue may seem similar there can be other factors that may need to be resolved. This topic has not had a response in almost 6 months.
By bumping on someone's topic it makes it confusing for the tech to understand who they are helping. This can in turn cause the wrong support to be given and can cause instability or worse to happen to your system.
