hi guys, if youre still there! Here's what Samsung said -

Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics UK regarding your E530.
Please check that your phone has the correct settings. Select settings,
phone settings, USB/PC connection settings, this should be set to PC
Studio/modem. (Please note the location of these settings may vary
slightly dependent on your handset). You should also ensure that the
Bluetooth on your handset is switched off.
Once the settings have been checked, connect the phone to the PC via USB
cable and start the PC Studio software. If your phone is not connecting,
turn the phone off and back on again while it is still connected to the
PC and the PC Studio window is still open.
If your phone is still not connecting the next thing you can check is
whether the driver has installed correctly. To do this, go to your
start menu onyour PC then select control panel and click on system,
which will bring up a pop up box with a number of tabs at the top. From
here you can select the hardware tab and will be able to access device
manager, which will display a list of all of the hardware devices on
your PC. Once in device manager you will see a section entitled
Universal Serial Bus Controllers, if you click on the + sign this will
display all of the USBdevices. You should have one of two options,
Samsung mobile device or unknown device, if the Samsung mobile
device has a yellow questionmark above it or you have unknown device it
means that the drivers have not installed correctly. To rectify this
you can right click on the icon and select update driver and follow the
instructions provided. Please note if your option is Samsung mobile
device and it does not have a yellow question mark above it, then it
means the driver has been installed correctly and does not require the
update.
If these steps do not resolve the issue then it will be necessary to
reinstall the software, as you may not have the most up to date version.
Before downloading the new software you will need to uninstall your
current version of PC Studio and restart your PC. Once the PC has
restarted, please download all parts of the latest version of software
for your handset via the below link:

http://www.samsungmo..._model=SGH-E530

When the software gives you the option to run or save, save it to a
location on your PC and make note of it. We would recommend restarting
the pc at this stage. When the pc restarts, go back to where the
software was saved and begin your installation.
Once the installation has finished the PC Studio will start and instruct
you to connect the phone. If for any reason this does not connect first
time please restart your PC. If after a restart it still does not
connect with the PC please repeat the first steps.

I have done everything they said and now I am getting a message coming up saying - "Cannot open port and this program is turned to offline mode. Turn to online" Grrrrrr. Ok, so when I look there is no indication anywhere as to how to 'turn to online'. Can't find anything in the menus, or in the Help section. My pc is definately connected - online. Is it really worth all this hassle I ask myself???? :)

Still here.
Did you install the USB driver?

Did you find anywhere in your phone for USB/PC connect? I know I didn't see any screens on it or reference to USB in your manual.

I think you are at a impasse because they tell you that you have a USB/PC option in the phone and you can't find it and there is no reference to it in the manual.

I know in my Sanyo phone mine is under tools/ USB connection and it will connect.

EDIT: From your manual....Send via: send the photo via MMS, e-mail, or Bluetooth.

Make sure you go to Device Manager as they requested and check that it lists your phone. That's very important. Plus, make sure there are no yellow flags:

Once in device manager you will see a section entitled
Universal Serial Bus Controllers, if you click on the + sign this will
display all of the USBdevices. You should have one of two options,
Samsung mobile device or unknown device, if the Samsung mobile
device has a yellow questionmark above it or you have unknown device it
means that the drivers have not installed correctly. To rectify this
you can right click on the icon and select update driver and follow the
instructions provided.

Until you can verify that the software you downloaded and installed is correct, whatever you do with your phone will not matter.

As to worth the hassle, I always like to see things to the end, but I am very stubborn. :)

So I then uninstalled and re-downloaded the software, as they said, then restarted pc, then ran the installation, and then got the message about being offline....??? I am stubborn too...or as I like to call it - persisitent/determined!! :) ...but running out of energy now...........

When downloading file, is it downloaded fully. It just may be the installer that is getting downloaded and when you click to install, it pulls the actual file from site online. Is there an option as to which fileWhich file is it you are installing? This one: SAMSUNG PC Studio USB Driver , or PC link , SAMSUNG PC Studio Internet Access ? I would think that you need maybe more than one file installed and they need to be installed in right order. Plus, I'm not all too sure Samsung knows what they are talking about as the Support may be outsourced and they don't understand your problem. Do they have LiveChat?

hi Astranut, sorry for the radio silence...been having problems with my car and an insurance claim to deal with!!!! It never rains..... I will have to come back to this particular problem in a couple of days when the dust has settled. To briefly answer...they told me to JUST download the PC Studio File Manager. As I have tried doing that in several different ways I then decided to download the USB Driver as well in case that was what was missing. But still no joy. They don't have Live Chat. I think I may have to phone them and take it from there....

I know about the "rain problem" :)

The driver didn't install for the USB? That can be checked again in Device Manager.

Will be waiting. Good luck.
