Hi all,

I am currently suffering from a computer problem that I believe to be a virus. It has occurred after a long string of problems – I initially had the repeated occurrence of the blue screen of death and then a fatal hang at the Windows XP loading screen, due to, I believe, the installation of a new driver. After getting into safe mode, removing the current driver and then installing an old driver, things seemed to have worked out – albeit with slow scrolling & refreshing. However, several weeks I began to suffer from corrupted files, as pop-ups alerted me to this, whilst I found my 'Invoices' folder unreadable and my 'PC' folder unreadable also. The specific targeting, as PC contains my drivers and the like, made this seem like a malicious virus.

Furthermore, internet explorer would not open, and my AVG ID Protection failed (adding further suspicion to my theory of a malicious virus). A week or so later my email scanner and Firewall also failed, suggesting that this is a progressive virus that is within my computer.

I then repaired AVG – which was a difficult task due to the 'AVG Watchdog' (avgcrsvx.exe, I believe) stopping reparations, and only after a long winded registry edit was I able to repair AVG. It is now repaired.

However, like before, the Email Scanner does not work. It initially suffered from the problem it had before, than it would attempt to initialize, all the while spawning pop-ups every so often that 'AVG E-Mail Scanner encountered a problem and needed to close.' I managed to apparently solve the initialization problem as, to try and solve it before, I had turned off scan incoming messages. Putting it on meant that the AVG tray showed me that it was working correctly – however the pop-ups are still appearing.

On further research, I have discovered that my driver is apparently 'incomplete or damaged'. I do not know whether this is due to incorrect installation or a virus.

Please note that I have been able to scan with AVG, and it found two things several weeks ago which I deleted, but problems still occur, so I fear there is something deeper. Equally, I have used Spyware Search and Destroy and Adaware, but neither have found anything.

Below you will find my PC specification and a HijackThis log. Many thanks for any help you can provide.

Just to update you all, using Trend Micro HouseCall I found SHUTGUI.exe (RogueAV CLNAV4) and ech.exe(TROJ Gen.MZ40M2) Fixed SHUTGUI but out of too fast button pressing, I ignored ech, and now need to scan again to get rid of it.
