My machine keeps getting pop-ups with the title "aurora". I have done some research and tracked it to nail.exe and tjghaaqnkbt.exe, both in C:\Windows

I have seen other similar posts but nothing seems to get rid of it for good!

I would be eternally grateful for your help! :tazz:

Welcome stargaze to Geeks to Go!

We need to disable AntiSpyware and Spybot as they will interfere with us cleaning up.
Should these programs prompt you for permissions, please grant permission.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Options, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

Open Spybot S&D in advanced mode, click Tools > Resident, and remove the check from "Resident Tea-Timer". Reboot after unchecking the entry.

Open HijackThis.
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
Media Access
Spyware Begone

Press ‘delete this entry’.
Press ‘back’
Than press ‘scan’

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [szqonm] c:\windows\system32\gbkneaz.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Begone] c:\freescan\freescan.exe -FastScan

O16 - DPF: {30CE93AE-4987-483C-9ABE-F2BD5301AB70} - http://64.158.165.49...dsldbaccess.exe

O16 - DPF: {91433D86-9F27-402C-B5E3-DEBDD122C339} - http://www.netvenda....bc11/games4.cab

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

As there has been no reply from the original poster for more than two weeks this topic is now closed.

If you are the original poster and still need assistance, please send me a PM.
