you are all going to think i'm crazy but i like http://www.250free.com they are pretty easy to use and they have ads but most free places do. IF you want to go ad free it's only 4.00 a month. So that's not as much as some.

does your university offer you free web space?  I'm from australia, and i've always had free webspace provided by the university, specially if yr studying it??

I go to unsw in sydney. they give out free webspace and internet hours if you do computer science or computing engineering degree, but i haven't found out if they give out freebies to anyone. which uni are you in?

last year i was tutoring at qut and griffith in qld. all the students there had a virtual space mainly used for storing their files but it could also be used as webspace by creating a public folder.
perhaps ask your tutor or computer accounts people about this

there is also this, don't know much about it but it looks alright
