Can you please tell me how can I tell if a bit or two is altered during a download or a product update?

if you're downloading something from a location that offers an MD5 hash, you can compare that hash to the hash of the downloaded file and see if it's been altered or corrupted.

could you give us more information about what you're trying to do and why you thinks something is getting messed up?

When I try to download a file for instance,if it consists of 50 MBs,I could only download approximately 40 to 45 MBs of it but internet explorer shows that that the download has been completed but the funny thing is that if I repeat the download a couple of times,the download gets ok.
