Hello,

My computer seem to be getting worse and worse. The events began randomly, and it happens like this:
Boot-up > Loading Screen crashes > Hard Reset. - Boot-up > Pressed F8 > Loaded Last Known Good Config > Followed through and it did its job. The computer worked but found many corrupt system files. Did a troubleshoot, chkdisk*, scans and registry fix. All seemed better after and everything looks normal.

*chkdsk fixed and replaced the corrupted ones

The next day, I booted up my computer and the problems persists (similar problems) and it degrades from there.
Did one more chkdsk and it fixed the problem again. And it was able to load normally.

I believe it will do this again when I do another boot-up.

TLDR: Random Crash >Fixed >Error Persists >Fixed >Error Persists >BSOD >Reboot >Safe-mode >Obvious Crash would occur next boot-up.

Possible similarity with "Boot-Loops" if I did not have Think Vantage System Recovery.

This happened so many times, and seems only the system files are affected. Unless, there would be an otherwise.

I hope the problem would go away, but I need help and information from this.

Thanks for the quick response. However, my OS is installed my main HD.
Also, my computer has performed chkdsk twice yesterday and I finally decided to do a full chkdsk for the third. It repaired everything and things were normal.

Not until I shut it down and used it today. One of the persisting problems is the KBD.exe ( A not responding error every start up) regarding a registry issue and I found that this article seems right, but I have performed CCleaner Registry fix and RegCure mutiple times until they were unable to find anymore.


Also some chkdsk report that I was able to capture:

Deleting Corrupt attribute record (128, "")
from file record segment 497*. (Similar notes only different digits from *497)

Also

Deleting index entry __File__ in the index $I30 of file __Digits__.

Like

"Deleting index entry desktop.ini in the index $I30 of file 3931"
and multiple similar.

Also, before this happened, my external HHD became drive :E to drive :I
and, music stutters occurred even if there were no other process running. But I was able to find a jscript that fixes it and it did.

But after that, the problem keeps getting worse and worse. D:

Hello,

My new problem is that my computer would now just load something with "DHCP" and it is saying "Operating System is not found" and when I insert the Windows XP disk, it would not install because it could not find any drive.

I tried to check the BIOS and it doesn't show my HD in devices. When I connect my external HD my computer would stop at "NTLDR is missing." I also checked what that meant but it doesnt quite match my situation. Is there another way to recover my HD?
I feel like my world just crumbled... please let me know. I really appreciate all the support and work you guys do..

It sounds like your drive might be dead, if your BIOS does not see it anymore then there is not much you can do.

You can try to check your wires to see if properley sets, or change your wire to make sure it is not the guilty one.

Also you can try your HD in another computer, if and IDE HD set it as a slave (or Cable Select depending of the set up of that PC) and check if the BIOS of that computer can detect your HD.

I opened up my tower and checked if the wires to the HD is fine. After that I rebooted the computer.
BIOS could read the HD but I get a black screen instead of the "Windows Loading"

I can't seem to access Safe Mode either.

Is there anything else I could do?

Okay for some reason sometimes the Windows Logo would appear, but it would BSOD and perform a boot loop.

Again, I tried to reboot, I was able to get to Safe Mode but it BSOD, and it led to the DHCP screen saying Operating System not found.

It seems like my computer would BSOD no matter what.
I also tried putting my Windows XP disk but it would not show the Recovery console.
I tried searching my best on google, but I can't seem to get a clear reason or way to get the Recovery console. D:

The reason why your XP cd might not show the recovery console is that if it cannot find an hard drive to recover it will not show up.

I would suggest to try like I said your HD in another computer (as a slave or it will not boot) and this way you will see if the same problem occurs, if everything works good then it is not your HD the problem but to me that is where the problem is (your hard drive is on its last miles).

You can also download the Utility cd of your HD manaufacturer and make it to be a boot CD and test your HD and see if it is still ok or not.

I also do not have the Utility CD of my HD manufacturer. Grrr...

I'd like to take another approach as I do not have any other computer.
Would it be possible to use SLAX Linux from a flash drive and repair my HD and OS from there?

However, I would like to take precautions and know every risks there are. Please let me know if it would be a good idea. Also, would a computer technician be able to recover my HD? I would like to know, but I hope I would not resort to them.

BUMP and Re-UPDATE

Okay, so I tried my method, I ran SLAX Linux through a flash drive and I was able to open my hard drive and check folders without errors.
Everything is running smoothly.

So lets go back to the problem, it first occurred with registry problems within the system. And the files that are corrupt are mostly system files. That left me thinking that. it is not my hard drive, which is quite true, so the only problem here is the operating system not booting up properly.

As for now, I am stuck, would it be a good idea to delete "WINDOWS" folder and reinstall Windows XP Pro?
Please, I really need your ideas, I can't stay fixing problems blindly...

If your hard drive is sometimes not detected by the bios then it has nothing to do with any corrupted files in windows since the post bios check is done even before windows even starts.

if your bios always sees your hard drive but gives you errors when it attemps to boot of your drive then it could be for many reasons and one of them is corrupted or missing boot or system files.

If you are sure it is not your hard drive the problem but the windows installions then reformating and reinstalling XP Pro will solve your problem but will also make you loose all your personal data.

You can either through Linux try to save your data since you say you could then save your personal files and then reinstall.

You cal also try the repair function of your XP Pro cd (only if the same version, XP pro to XP Pro, SP2 , SP2 ect)instead of erasing and reinstalling.
