I have an external soundcard (tascam 122) selected as my playback default device. Whenever I play a game I hear popping and crackling (digital distortion). I know it's not the hardware as it works fine when not in a game and while recording it's perfect. It's got me completly stumped, I think it has the asio drivers selected (can't find anywhere that mentions them in the sound settings).. does anyone have any ideas?

This usually means the volume is up too high in the Volume Control (double-left-click the grey speaker icon down by the clock).

Check your sound setting in your games, sometimes you have different options of what kind of rendering to use for your sound.

In the Volume mixer I can't turn down the (overall) volume level as it is 'greyed out' and the other levels: wave, cd player and sw synth I've turned down next to nothing but it's still crackling.

Also I've tried changing the settings in the games but to no avail.
