Computer not recognising iPod Touch

My computer just wont recognise it. I plug it in and all i get is a 3 tone noise. Like as if it didnt recognise the hardware. I know its a ply n play device so i shouldnt need a driver. Also, i have reinstalled itunes and there was still no luck.
