I installed Windows 7 and after about a week I started getting this message that
Windows is not Genuine - also in the bottom right hand corner it now says
Build 7600
This Copy of Windows is not Genuine.
If I go to the store and buy a Brand new Copy will this solve the problem and
can I do an update so I don't lose all my information?
Also whenever I try to use Windows Media Player from my email or when I
try to watch anything on utube it cancels my internet connection,
do you know what is happening?
Thank you
Carol

I bought it off Craigs List - It was supposed to be one
they put on new computers but now I have my doubts.

Hi,
Yes if you go and buy a new copy then it will take care of it but you will have to back up all of your data that you want saved then install windows then put it all back. At this point that would be your only option as the copy you have could have all sorts of issues with it as it is a pirated copy most likely.

Thank you - I have my hard drive divided into 4 partitions - is it possible to save my data to a free partition and then install the new windows 7 over the old one that is pirated?

Howdy:

In a nutshell, yes. Just make sure, when you go to install your legit version of Windows, you ONLY format the desired partition (usually c:) and install there.
