Anytime I use Media Center in Windows 7 to play any type of media - video clips, pictures, recorded television, or DVDs - the color quality is noticeably faded when compared with playing the same clips, TV photos, or DVD in any other video player (such as Windows Media Player, TotalMedia 3.5, or Aver MediaCenter).

I've tried different screen resolutions including my monitor's native 1080p. Also, I compared the same videos on an XP Media Center 2005 Edition laptop, in the same players vs. Media Center, and did not experience any difference in color.

All content in Media Center appears faded, as shown in the above example. All other programs perform as shown in the TotalMedia example.

Any ideas or informations, especially a fix, would be appreciated.

Have you checked your Windows Media Centre's settings? Maybe the brightness or contrast is turned down or something just for windows media centre, try tuning it up and see if that helps

Update...I was incorrect about pictures, they look the same through Media Center or any other program.

Does that conflict with your theory? Where do I change the brightness/contrast in Media Center for Windows 7?

If I tell it I have a "built-in" display (laptop), it does not give me any options to configure contrast/brightness.

My display is RGBLED, which from my experience means it has a clearer, sharper picture and much improved viewing angles from any direction than a standard laptop screen. It also has 1080p resolution. Additionally, I have noticed when watching a weak analog antenna station, the "snow" looks as it would on a TV. On my older laptop with a more typical monitor, this snow stands out, is more pixelated, and is significantly more distracting.

In light of what seems is the tendency of this monitor to behave more like a desktop flat panel or TV set, if I select one of those options on Media Center, it tells me to adjust the controls on my monitor.

Such adjustments do exist in the settings for my ATI Mobility Radeon graphics card, but would it be a good idea to change those settings if all other onscreen images outside of Media Center look fine?

Firstly, only moderators and admins can delete posts, and secondly, is Media Centre that important? If you have to adjust the settings just for Media Centre, it would be better to use something else. Although, if you really want to use Media Centre, then i guess you will have to adjust the settings of your graphics Card.

Thanks for the information. Media Center is far superior to the TV tuner card's software (AverMedia Center/Total Media) in reliability, features, guide, remote compatibility, and just overall look and features. If there is no individual adjustment for Media Center, I may experiment with the graphics settings. It would be nice however, if there were something which only affected Media Center.

UPDATE: I tried adjusting the controls on my Graphics Card's properties, and while I was able to make the picture brighter, I was not able to directly compensate for the faded color issue. Of course, this affected my entire screen picture, not just Media Center, so I put everything back as it was.

What type graphics card do you have? If you compare the color of the same video playing in Media Center versus Windows Media Player, do you experience any difference in color between the two.

My interest now is in whether this happens on all Windows Seven PCs, ATI Mobility Radeon 4670s, or Dell Studio XPS M1640s? Or am I still the odd one out, in which case it seems there should be a solution somewhere out there.

Firstly, sorry for replying so late, I've been quite busy lately (Study) I am using a HP Pavillion dv6 (3030tx) with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650, personally, i did not see any noticeable difference between between media centre and media player, this seems very odd. Sorry that i couldn't help you any more =(, i'm stumped! hopefully someone else will help though
