a pop up from norton in the bottom right corner said it detetced a downloader. But i havent noticed any problems yet.

it did quarantee it but not sure if computer is completly free of viruses or was it a false positive? Because I dont see how it would be possible for me to get a virus. Below is just one of the 8 viruses detected from a virus scanner it said.

I did all the steps like TFC, ERUNT, and Malewarebytes. Malwarebytes found nothing and i also used SUPERAntispyware and it got rid of lots of tracking cookies but thats it. I did notice TFC cleaned the java cache and it looks like thats where the virus was so I think it may be clean now but im not sure. Ive never noticed any problems with my computer besides norton saying i have a virus so im not sure if i should move on to the next step or not.

Hi and welcome to GeeksToGo! :)

Sorry for the delay, we did not overlook your thread on purpose.

The good news is that files in cache or temporary folders are particularly prone to being falsely identified as malicious. So this might be a false positive and your PC uninfected.

If you want to get your PC checked out, please read through the following guide and post the logs:Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. I suggest you do this and select Immediate E-Mail notification and click on Proceed. This way you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

Hi,

one thing you can try is to download and run TFC and empty the java cache:
Clear the Java cache:
  • Go to Start -> Control Panel.
  • In the Control Panel, double-click the Java icon.
    • The Java Control Panel appears.
  • Click Settings... under "Temporary Internet Files".The Temporary Files Settings dialog box appears.
  • Click Delete Files...The Delete Temporary Files dialog box appears.
  • Click OK on the Delete Temporary Files window.
NOTE: This deletes all the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the cache!
  • Click OK on the Temporary Files Settings window.
  • Close the Java Control Panel.

You can also view these instructions along with screenshots here.

Then run Norton again. If it still finds files in the cache, then we should have a closer look, because this would mean they get recreated.

regards myrti
