My comp goes to sleep after an hour I think (The balanced power setting), and I'll come back to the laptop and I'll have the "windows has recovered" message if I'm gone long enough--and also, when I manually go to sleep at end of night, most of the time, it won't sleep properly--I'll get BSOD and it'll reboot..

Here's the most recent message I got about 20 minutes ago, when I tried to put computer to sleep---running sony vaio vgn- aw110j, Vista.

Download BlueScreenView (in Zip file)
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

It looks like fltmgr.sys is throwing a fit.
Do you use Norton by any chance?

LOL!! Amazing!! well, funny you ask--about 2 weeks back I upgraded Norton Internet security to Norton 360, and I thought that might be the problem..so, last night after the last BSOD I uninstalled 360 and am running microsoft security essentials and the built in windows firewall in vista (none of the free firewalls that you guys recommend work with 64bit vista)..this is a Laptop connected through a home network router, so I believe im covered firewall wise anyways , is that true?

anyways, was gonna see if I get any BSOD today without 360 installed, and so far clean..was gonna pick up Kaspersky which is on sale right now at Best Buy this week, unless you recommend something else?

so,360 is probably the culprit?

:) :)
Very possible. fltmgr.sys is Windows filter manager and Norton uses its own filters. I've read about possible conflict between those two.

On a side note, Norton likes to leave a bunch of leftovers, so if you uninstalled it through "Programs & Features", make sure to run Norton Removal Tool: http://service1.syma...005033108162039

question--I have that Budump on my desktop (it was step 2 on the link u provided), can i get rid of that now?

also--what do you recommend for internet security? is Kaspersky good enough?

also, just curious, Im gonna get a firewall on here, but is it necessary on a laptop that has a network/router..?

Thanks for all your help :)

can i get rid of that now?

Yes.

Kaspersky is a top notch security program.

As for a firewall, I prefer to have both, hardware (router) and software firewall.
