I have tried all of the other steps that you suggest before posting this. I would appreciate any help you can give. I hope that you can get back to me quickly, as this is my Mom's computer (that I am fixing for her) and I will only be in town another day. Thanks in advance, since I know you guys will help.

edited to add....I also have Search Extender, Home Search Assistant, and Shopping Wizard that I cannot get rid of.

Hello! My name is Kat, and I will be helping you get your computer cleaned back up and on the go! This is a very nasty CWS infection, and requires several steps to fully clean up. Please either print these instructions, or save them to a Notepad page on your desktop for easy reference. Part of the fix requires you to be in Safe Mode, and you will not be able to access the Internet at that time to get to these instructions!

1.
  • Click Start>Run, type services.msc into the Open editbox and click the Ok button.
  • Locate the Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper service and click the Stop button.
  • In the Startup type dropdown select Disabled.
  • Click the Apply button and then the Ok button.
  • Close the Services window
2.
  • Click Start>Run, type cmd into the Open editbox and click the Ok button.
  • Copy/paste the line below into the Command Prompt window and press the Enter key:
    sc delete 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I
  • Close the Command Prompt window
3. Click CTRL>ALT>DELETE keys at the same time to bring up your task manager. Under the Processes tab, see if you can locate the following. If so, please End Task on them.
  • winoe.exe
  • Qgvgdi.exe
  • apidr32.exe
4. Please download and install these programs - don't run them yet!!

Please download and unzip
About:Buster
to a folder. Inside the folder is a readme file that has instructions
on the use of the program.
AboutBuster MUST be updated before you use it.
Start AboutBuster, click the update button, check for update, drag the
box to the side and hit download updates, close the box . Don't run it
yet.

Download and unzip cwsserviceremove to your desktop. use either link
below:
http://computercops....ownload&id=3002
http://www.mytechsup...rviceremove.zip

Download CW-Shredder at the link below:
http://cwshredder.ne...CWSshtreder.exe

5. Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View
tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide
extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

For anyone using Windows XP, 'Search' will not automatically show
hidden files even if your folder options settings are set to do that. Do
this so you can see hidden files and folders - click here
http://www.davehigha...ds/xphidden.zip
to download xphidden.zip. Extract xphidden.reg from the zip file and
save it to the desktop. When done, double-click the xphidden.reg and when
asked to merge say yes.

6. Reboot into Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the machine begins to start up. You will be taken to a screen that will give you the option to click to enter Safe mode.

7. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\rvkug.dll/sp.html#55135
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\rvkug.dll/sp.html#55135
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\rvkug.dll/sp.html#55135
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\rvkug.dll/sp.html#55135
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\rvkug.dll/sp.html#55135
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\rvkug.dll/sp.html#55135

O2 - BHO: Class - {58D0E142-88E8-BFBD-FF8D-64516042C177} - C:\WINDOWS\winne32.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Rnasx] C:\Program Files\Bagets\Qgvgdi.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [apidr32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\apidr32.exe

O16 - DPF: {1B9935E4-8A50-4DD8-BD09-A7518723BF97} (eAssist NetAgent Customer ActiveX Control version 3) - http://www.cabeagent...s/custappx3.CAB
O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akama...meInstaller.exe

O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\winoe.exe" /s (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

Viewpoint or ViewManager

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\Bagets

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\WINDOWS\apidr32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winoe.exe

Close HijackThis.

8. Run AboutBuster . This will scan your computer for the bad files and
delete them. Save the report (copy and paste into notepad or wordpad
and save as a .txt file) and post a copy back here when you are done with
all the steps.

9. Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the
box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure
these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

10. Double click on the cwsserviceremove and when asked to merge say
yes.

11. Run CW-Shredder - Hit the FIX button - let it run and fix what it
finds.

12. Download the Hoster from
Here Press
"Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program

[b] 12.
Post a reply here with a fresh HJT log, as well as a copy of the log from About.Buster!

Thanks for getting back to me. I am actually doing this long distance for my mother's computer that was attacked while I was visiting, so please bear with me if it takes us a while to get back with you. I will post her log as soon as I can get it.

That is fine! Take your time. Please don't get discouraged if this doesn't work on the first try! This is a very nasty strain of CWS. I am subscribed to this thread, so I will know when you post a reply, and we'll go from there!

Kat...Just wanted to let you know that my Mother's computer is all fixed. An IT friend of hers stopped by to take care of it for her. Thanks for all your help though. I really do appreciate it. Hope I don't need it again, but will definitely come back here if I do.
