My dad sent the laptop to get fixed to a local repair shop. We got it back and it was working fine. A couple months later, my HDD died and I replaced it. When I used the recovery disk, it says it's not for this PC.

My dad said the motherboard was replaced and I'm guessing this is the problem.

How can I install drivers without an OS?
How can I figure out what drivers to install?
How can I determine the manufacturer/model of the motherboard?

Thanks!

If the board was replaced the recovery CDs do not work.

That being said, usually if the motherboard is defective on a laptop then it's scrap anyway so I doubt the board was replaced in the first place.

It's more likely your disks are looking for a recovery partition that was on the old drive that's no longer on the new one.

Easiest thing to do is borrow a CD for the version of Windows you need (see licence on the bottom of the laptop) and install it from there. Then simply go the website of the company who made the laptop and get the drivers from there.

I downloaded Vista Recovery... from here http://neosmart.net/...-disc-download/

I entered the license key but I got this after...

Default Windows cannot open the required file D:\Sources\Install.wim... Error: 0x80070002
Windows cannot open the required file D:\Sources\Install.wim. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070002.

Do I need an actual installation cd?
