Thank you in advance for reading my inquiry. I own a toshiba satellite A105 series, I had it for about four years (feb 2006.) I have a similar situation to the reference forum above, I just thought with all the details, a seperate thread would be necessary. Here is my situation:

When I tried to startup my laptop, I would recieve the following message:

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the orginial Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

Because the Window System I have (XP, Media Edition, 2005 I believe) my laptop did not come with an XP setup cd-rom and I didn't create a backup disc because that option is not available for my laptop. I tried to use my Toshiba issued recovery DVD and it didn't work. What would happen would be that the computer attempts to read the DVD and then configures my computer. After about 1-2 minutes, I then recieved this message:

"Wrong Machine!" on a gray background with the option to exit.

Keep in mind that I have the correct Recovery DVD to reset my laptop.

When I click on exit, my computer reboots again and I recieved the previous error message: \WINDOWS\SYS...
I tried to do F8 to see if I can go into safe mode but because of the Windows error message I would only reboot the computer again. From what I can tell, my laptop haven't been damage internally by my efforts. It just keeps trying to boot up and displays the window error message. I reviewed the website and found the referenced forum and was wondering if I could do the same with my situation.

However I own a Toshiba A205 with Vista and wanted to know if I could install the CD burner and burn the program that way so all I would have to do is just install and follow the program onto my laptop.
