I am constantly being asked to download and install Adobe FlashPlayer every time I wish to view a video, why?

Because most online videos these days have been created with 'Flash' and require the Flash Player if you want to play them inline.
You will need to install Flash for Internet Explorer & Flash for Firefox, as they are not the same.
