connecting laptop to wireless router

I just installed a netgear w1000v2 router to my desktop. My laptop cant see the network and the wireless network connection says not connected. Can you help?

HI yellowsue! Welcome to G2G!

Did you set up the Wireless network when you installed the router? Normally, most routers come with a setup CD that you put it, and it walks you through all those steps.
Did you do this?

Also, what is the make/model of your router?
