I've posted this problem on the site previously and was blown off so I'm trying again.

I have no audio from any internet site. My local audio works perfectly. I've tried all of the fixes I've been able to find for the problem, I've checked all of my sound settings to make sure they were on etc. I'm including a HJT log in hopes that there's something useful in it.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi Cimitiere!

Try the following and see if it helps:
  • Open the Start Menu and type cmd into the search box.
  • Place your mouse over the "cmd.exe" entry that appears, and right-click.
  • Choose Run as Adminstrator.
  • Follow the prompts (you may need an administrator's password, if you aren't on an adminstrator's account), until the black window with white text appears.
  • Type sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
  • Let the scan run, it may take some time to finish.
  • Once the scan is complete, reboot your computer.
Once the computer is rebooted, check and see if sound plays in IE.

Fenor,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that a couple of hours ago actually. There were a number of corruptions that the scan said it couldn't fix. I attempted to look at the log file but was unable to do so.

If there are corruptions, then it is probably best to backup what you need saved and reinstall Windows to get a clean slate.

I was hoping to avoid it. Thought I'd try here before I went that route.

Why not try a repair install first?

Tried doing a repair. Repair installation isn't one of the options on the menu. System restore is, but I had it turned off due to other issues and forgot to turn it back on. We're transferring everything to the E drive now in hopes of saving as much data as possible.

Good news: I have internet sounds
Bad News: Windows thinks it's a counterfeit copy.
Bad News 2: I can't verify anything on the phone with MS until my boss is back in town next month. (You'd think that they'd have someone else with any necessary information but nooooooooo).

The error code states that the MAK is over it's limit, but we're have a Volume License with many more activations than are currently in use.

I just had to confirm that my key was valid. There are a few ways to do that. The one that will work for most people is to use the telephone service. When you chose that option your key will generate a series of numbers, you enter those numbers for the activation service and it will give you a new set of numbers to enter that tells your machine that your key is valid.

There are some cmd workarounds for it also. I used a CMD workaround myself. It was about 9 lines of code that turned off the slui and reset some dat files etc. I'm at my office now and don't have the code handy. YOu should be able to find them on google, it was the third or fourth option when I searched for activation problems.

Again, thanks so much for the help.
