ALWAYUP trojan hit my computer tonight[RESOLVED]

I was just surfing along and BAM, it hit. My Norton window popped up, said I had just been infected and that Norton was unable to remove the trojan horse. I immediately came here after the expert help I received earlier today for problems relating to my daughters computer. I read a few topics and saw that I should probably go download a service pack or something, so I clicked the link to do that. It initialized but I got an error on the installation. I tried more than once. The error message is below.


The following updates failed to be installed successfully:

so, I ran Hijack This in hopes that someone here will be able to tell me what to do.

A question also...I'm running Norton and ewido suite, why did neither of them catch this trojan horse before it infected my computer? They're both up to date and everything. I make sure to update twice a week, sometimes even more often than that.

Hi rainbo,

From the looks of it you have an entirely new infection.
Please go to:

and follow the instructions there to upload
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Userinit.exe

Note: the real one is C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe

I would advise you to uninstall
ViewPoint Manager
under Add/remove Software.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

I've gone there and asked them to tell me where the file is located. I looked for it, but it all looks like Japanese to me. I have no clue what I'm doing, so hopefully someone can point me to the right post. :tazz:


I did get rid of the View Point Manager, but I'm waiting until I get that file before running HiJack This for you.

Ok, here's the logfile after reboot. BTW, we were unable to locate the userinit.exe file in WINDOWS/SYSTEM. The only one that I found was in WINDOWS/SYSTEM32, so the guy told me to just follow the rest of your instructions and that should fix me up.


ALSO, upon reboot, I got an error message that I've never seen before. Here is what is said: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem and needed to close.

szAppName:svchost.exe

Also, after reporting, I was sent to this website: http://oca.microsoft...2235ba&SID=1501

So, I did all that they said, rebooted and everything seems to be working ok, except I did notice that my machine seems to be running slower than usual. I'll keep an eye on that and see if it continues.
