pc shuts itself off / freezes XP

hey there , my computer jus shuts itself off and restarts again , and ive scaned for viruses with my nortans and it says it cant find nothing at all , i have to turn it bak off and on and jus hope that it loads up , and when it does about 10 mins into what i am doing the screen jus freezes , but the other day it did go on to this blue screen with white writing and was saying something about BIOS memory and disable caching/shadowing , what ever the [bleep] that is... i dont have a c lue , please can some1 point me in the right direction in what to do . thanks :)
