I just finished downloading PSP 9, but when I installed it I got an error saying the installer service could not be accessed... this occured after reading and unpacking.
BTW, the computer info: it's a P2 800mhz that was upgraded to XP (I think from ME) and still using fat32. Win Help and msn.com have been of no help on this so far- any suggestions?

U made sure U login with full rights? as in Administrator?
And did you save it to a disk? If so try rebooting and unpack it again and install

In my experience a whole lot of problems were regarding files in use, not the right rights or corrupt file download

Thanks for the links- unfortunately, after doing everything except reinstalling the windows installer, there is no change. Would it be safe to install a copy for another OS? Or is there a way to get it off the installation disk without reinstalling the whole OS?

Is there a reason for not re-installing the Windows Installer as per their instructions in the 1st link, it will not affect your current installation, other than repair it. You could try here to see if it will install over the top, this is the latest version, if you have not used Windows update this month.

Thanks for all the help. I finally got it to work, except that the service won't automatically start even when set on auto so I have to manually starting before an install. I'm off to the update to see if this fixes it.
