I have tried the solutions to no avail.

I have installed Office 2003 and it works. I have Word and PPT 2007 and both work. It worked fine for months. Then yesterday half-way through the day, it packed in. No splash screen, nothing. I click the exe and nothing happens. There is no process visible, there is a tiny spike in the cpu graph in task manager.

Any good ideas before I have to locate the disc which I lost?

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have any restore points beyond 2 days ago for some reason.

Now I cannot open most .exe files but oddly, there are still some I can including Word, PPT and Firefox. This is a mystery...
