I have about 100 sites saved to my favorites list. I can pull up every site but one,
which led me to believe that the problem is the site itself. I called my friend who is with a different ISP- he can pull the site up with no problem. If I even place the cursor on the shortcut on my faves to show the address, it says "cannot find server" WHY?? I've tried clicking on a link to the site from a sister site and get the same thing. I have even tried using "System Restore" with no luck. Anyone have any idea what's going on or what I should try? It's driving me crazy!! <_<

Welcome to GTG mollyoliver <_<

Could you please give me the URL of the site? For example, "http://www.geekstogo.com/". Thanks. :D

Can you go to the site without going through the favorite link? I mean by just typing in http://www.ridgeland....com/index.html in the address bar and pressing enter.

No, I've tried every way possible and nothing works.I just don't understand why this is the only site I cannot get! Could it be some freaky communication problem between servers?? I am baffled.

Let's see a HJT log. Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results. <_<

You can do some cleaning up here. You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure. Please move Hijack This to a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu). Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\obpc.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe
C:\Program Files\Hotbar\ <- Folder Itself
C:\Program Files\LiveUpdate\ <- Folder Itself
C:\Program Files\WildTangent\ <- Folder Itself
C:\Documents and Settings\meg torres\Application Data\ttuh.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\uebwab.exe

Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Fix the following you don't want to save RAM:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime Quicktime Tray Icon
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MMTray] C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mm_tray.exe MusicMatch Tray Icon
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background MSN Messenger

There is also an unnecessary Office process running that is a RAM hog. For more info and how to disable it, see here:
http://support.micro...spx?kbid=282599

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

Hello, wanted to let you know that I deleted most of the items you recommended. It did solve some small problems I was having but not the problem w/pulling up the website I mentioned. You are never going to guess what fixed that! I pinged the site and was getting 0 return. I changed my dial-up number and that fixed the problem. I guess it was a server issue and not a problem with my system after all. THANKS SO MUCH for taking the time to help me!! <_<

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay.

If you don't want to pay for anti-virus anymore, AVG offers a great free anti-virus:

Also, make sure your Windows Firewall is turned on. To do this:

1. Go to "Start", then "Control Panel"
2. Click on "Network and Internet Connections", then "Network Connections" at the bottom
3. Right-click on your internet connection and choose "Properties"
4. Click the "Advanced" tab and make sure "Protect my computer..." is checked
5. Hit "OK" and you will now be protected from hackers

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend Firefox.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D
