Yesterday I tried to help a friend whose computer was slow. I have never seen anything like this before. Needless to say the computer kept crashing and I restored Windows XP. Now all his software that was on there shows up but it will not open. He uses a wireless internet connection and it shows that that is on with a good connection but Internet Explorer will not go anywhere. I need to download the service packs but can't get online to do so. Also he was using Microsoft Excel 2007 but that doesn't work either it shows on the computer but will not open the program. I did not see a restore point on the computer before all this happened. What can I do to get it back up and running with the programs he had if I don't have the cds? Should I just tell him to take it in somewhere or is there something I can do to fix it because I feel terrible about it now missing all his stuff?

If you don't have the CDs there is very little that you can do. I am almost sure that the data can be saved.
