Hi Guys,

This is my first time with major computer trouble and I'm lost. I'm not very computer savvy, so please forgive my ignorance. Not sure if you need details of my specific problem or just the log from Hijack This, which follows. So I'll give you both:

My problem started with not being able to click links sent on certain software, i.e. MSN Chat. It has evolved to several web pages, including Hotmail, MSN, SignonSanDiego, and Myspace being redirected to AIM's Page Not Found. I've run Norton Antivirus, Spysweeper, and CWShredder. All come up clean. Help! I don't know what else to do.

I've been out of town for the past few days, so I wasn't able to run HJT until tonight. Still having the same problems after running all the programs suggested. No clue what to do now :tazz: Here's the new log.

Hi Lyndachat,

There doesn't seem to be a lot wrong with your HJT log, so we will sort that out first before we start to look deeper, if that doesn't clear your problems.

Carry out a free online virus scan from the following link. Type in name, for company type anything you like, add email address in relevant boxes.

Kaspersky

Download a free 14 day trial of ewido from the link below. Install it and start it up. Follow the prompts to upgrade it, then close it down.

Please download Cleanup from here:
Cleanup. Do not run it yet.

Set PC to show hidden files (click link if you do not know how)LINK

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Rescan with HJT and check mark the following entries:

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click FIX CHECKED.

Using windows explorer, locate and delete the following files if found

C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain
C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdocvw.dll
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Plugins\NPUPano.dll


Now run Cleanup to clear out temp files, junk etc.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. This may take some time, so go grab a coffee. Once it finds the first issue tick the box for all. Post the log from the scan here for me.

Reboot PC into normally, rescan with HJT and post the log back in this thread, with the ewido log

Hi Usetobe,

Ok, I followed your instructions as closely as possible, however I was not able to boot up in safe mode??? and I couldn't locate those files through internet explorer, except for C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdocvw.dll -- and I wasn't able to delete that one :tazz: Access Denied! Although I'm amazed how much was 'cleaned-up', I am still no further. I am still being redirected.

Can you outline what happens regarding SAFE MODE...do you get the options screen after tapping F8?....

If so what happens when you select option?

I tried repeatedly to start my computer in safe mode. After repeatedly tapping F8, my computer beeped at me every time I touched a key and continued to boot up normally. I get NO options.

Ok try this.

On some PC's you need to tap the F5 key instead of the F8.

Or then try this....

Close all open programs.
Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
The computer restarts in Safe mode.
Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer
