I think I may have a virus/slowing my computer

I don't really know/think if it really is a virus since there has been no interruption of my computer programs, but recently my computer has gotten REALLY slow. I don't know whether it is because I downloaded something or I deleted a lot of files I no longer needed (around 10 gigs).

I'm sorry too if this question ended up being under the wrong category, I don't know where to post for help on a slow computer.
