very bad lag

Okay, I just freshly installed windows 7, from xp (because it was very very very laggy) and, the problem is not fixed. everything lags, typing, videos,searching etc. Anyone know whats going on?

3 GB of ram
NVidia geforce 8400gs
Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.93 GHz

I am also using dual monitors (don't know if that has anythign to do with it)

any kind of help would be greatly appreciated
