My brother has a gateway notebook and is recieving a SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 4: WDC WD3200BEVT-22ZCT0-(S1) WARNING and we are needing to get his files off of the unit before it dumps how do we go about this and after we get the files how do we fix the problem

Fixing the problem is drive replacement.

You can retrieve the data a number of ways...

- Pull it out, slave it to another machine
- Use a hotswap dock to another machine
- Load up an Ubuntu live disk to the laptop and transfer the data to an external drive
