Router problems?

When my laptop is off, the wireless router seems fine. Once I switch my laptop on, the connection starts cutting out, once I open Firefox, the connection cuts out.

It will continue to cut out - 1 minute on, 5 off - until I turn my computer off.

Then the lights are all green and solid.

Someone suggested I try getting a Linux boot disc and see if the problem persists, but not only have I not got any blank discs, but I don't see how that will help anything. Even if it does work in Linux, all my programs are in Windows. I would've just spent ages proving that fact that something's wrong with Windows or my laptop, despite the fact I already know something's wrong.

Is it my router or laptop?

My flatmates seem to connect with no problems, and while they are connected, I can use the internet just fine. Once they turn their computers off and it's just my computer communicating with the router, all heck breaks loose. (I can't believe the 'H' word is censored!)

I wish I could be more specific with the details, but I can't. There are no other resources that I could find even closely related to this problem.

Here's me thinking that, when it comes to computers, it either works or it doesn't.

Cheers in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

Nope, theirs is fine. Almost flawless. When their computers are on, I can stream large videos (4od, etc.) or download files (albums, etc.) just fine.

But once they shutdown to go to bed or whatever, mine starts cutting out.

Once it's just my computer relaying info from the router and back, it starts malfunctioning. The problems are at their worst when it's just my laptop.
