alps pointing device driver has stopped working

i I have a Compaq Presario C700 and all of a sudden the Mouse / sensor pad stopped working - it has an alps pointing device driver and i have uninstalled and then re installed the driver still nothing please HELP!!!!

most likely the connection cable between the touchpad and the computer has come loose. Or the touchpad itself has failed. It's kinda hard to fix because you need to take the top cover off the laptop to get to the touchpad. You can buy used touchpads off Ebay.
