Hi
I wonder if I could get some help, my laptop has suddenly become very slow and it mentiond something about virtual memory and the paging file earlier, i'm running windows xp home.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")
- security programs in use (antivirus, firewall)

Howdy fireguy999 lets see what we can find. Please do the following and attach the requested logs.

Download Autoruns from the link in my signature below:

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
5: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.
6: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop.
7: Attach to your next reply.




Download and install Free Everest Home Edition
Open it.
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Click the + by computer, click on Sensor. Get a screenshot and post it so I can check your temps and voltages...


DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING UNDER THE LINE THAT SAYS "DEBUG- PCI"

First of all, you could definitely use another 512MB of RAM. That would help a lot.

Before I go to your startups, one question.
Do you have a whole Adobe Acrobat suite, paid for version? Is it crucial to whatever you do?

As I said, first, more RAM.

Then...
I suggest, you unistall Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is a resource hog, and install FoxIt Reader: http://www.filehippo...download_foxit/, which is much smaller, and faster. It does very same thing.
Make sure, you run "custom" install, and opt out from installing any extra toolbars.

Now, you have some unnecessary startups, which can be disabled (no actual programs will be removed).

Re-run Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab and UN-check following items:

+ "Adobe ARM"
+ "Adobe Reader Speed Launcher"
+ "AGRSMMSG"
+ "GrooveMonitor"
+ "HP Software Update"
+ "iTunesHelper"
+ "SoundMan"
+ "SunJavaUpdateSched"
+ "HP Digital Imaging Monitor.lnk"
+ "WMPNSCFG"

Restart computer.


Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.
